Amy Brownbill, economist at IHS Markit:
- The beginning of the final quarter of 2016 started on a positive note for the Japanese manufacturing sector.
- Operating conditions improved at the strongest rate since January, underpinned by expansions in both production and new orders.
- Output growth accelerated to the highest in ten months.
- Meanwhile, new order growth resumed helped by a boost in international demand which increased at the fastest rate in nine months.
- As a result, manufacturers hired additional staff at the quickest rate in two-and-a-half years, suggesting confidence towards the outlook remains relatively strong
- Manufacturers also benefitted from lower cost burdens as input prices declined, linked to falls in raw material costs and fuel expenses
