Softbank preparing to discuss T-Mobile/Sprint merger

Softbank owns Sprint

SoftBank Group Corp. is a holding company that engages in the management of its group companies which provides information technology and telecommunication services including Sprint, is proposing to discuss a merger between Sprint and T-Mobile.

If you recall, the Japan company pledged to invest 50B in the US and create 50K new jobs.  The CEO Maayoshi Masa Son, met with Trump shortly after his election win with great fanfare.  The company has 100B to spend as a result of a technology investment fund that SoftBank announced with the government of Saudi Arabia in October.

When there is a merger of such large companies, you think of the duplication that can be made more efficient by getting rid of jobs, instead of adding jobs. You also worry about less competition in the mobile industry.

The stocks of Sprint and t-mobile are up.

Sprint is up $0.35 or 3.89% to $9.35

T-Mobile stock is up $2.87 or 4.73% to $63.48
