Trump way ahead in Ohio
Donald Trump leads Ohio 47%-42% in another sign that his anti-globalization message is resonating with rust belt voters. The numbers are from Quinnipiac, which released a slate of state-level polls.
Elsewhere, Trump doesn't have the same level of traction. In the key state of Florida, he trails 46%-41%. In North Carolina, Clinton leads 46%-43%. In Pennsylvania, she's ahead 45%-41%.
The debate had little effect.
"Likely voters in the critical swing states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania say by margins of more than 2-1 that Democrat Hillary Clinton bested Republican Donald Trump in the first presidential debate, but except for Florida, that debate win did little to get her more votes," Quinnipiac wrote.
The good news for Clinton is that she created a lead in Florida, where she was in a dead head in the Sept 8 poll from the same pollster.
In Ohio, there is a massive divergence of the sexes. Trump's 58 - 31 percent general election lead among men outweighs Clinton's 51 - 39 percent lead among women.
Given the likely breakdowns in the electoral college, Trump most likely needs to win all four states.
Separately, a Bloomberg poll shows Clinton with a one-point lead, up from a even race in the prior polls.
